Oppressive Empires & Religious Resistance

On September 10th at 4PM, we will be looking at different texts in the Hebrew Bible as well as the Christian New Testament about the dynamics of resistance from religious figures who stood up against oppressive empires. We will discuss the different figures who led and challenged the oppressive empires of their time while reflecting on these stories and what they mean to us personally.

What is active peace seeking and peacemaking? How do our spiritual lives call us to be peacemakers in a world of violence and turmoil? On Sunday, September 24th we will have a conversation with Rev. Michael Crosby of First Mennonite Church about his faith tradition which is centered on peacemaking and its roots in different religious traditions. We will also discuss ways our spiritual faith can call us to explore the practice of peacemaking in our communities and in our world.
