UPCC Reuter Organ

Great music has been a tradition at University Place. Our congregation is very proud of our Reuter Organ (Op. 1248). With 54 ranks and over 3,900 pipes it is the second largest in the area. A variety of different pipes allows the organ to be able to play a wide variety of musical styles. The organ's basic fine tone is because of the good acoustics of the nave and that is it not hidden in a box or behind a veil of curtains, but entirely exposed in a specially built mahogany face on the chamber on the south side of the nave.
Initially installed in 1959, several additions were made over the next ten years. Major renovations and replacement of the console were made in 2003 by Buzard Organ Builders of Champaign.
The new console is now fully solid state with 99 memory levels.
The organ consists of six sections: the console, the choir organ (installed in the east chamber), the swell organ (installed in the west chamber), the great organ (the major exposed area), the pedal organ (housed behind the great organ, (and the positiv (on the north side of the nave). The chancel bombards are part of the great organ and are installed over the baptistry.
